Google is looking to acquire Nokia's digital health division, according to a new report
Last year, Nokia acquired Withings, which specializes in the development and manufacture of health and fitness devices, but it seems that the deal was not successful for the Finnish company since the latter recently announced that it is considering selling its department responsible for health products, Health. A leaked memo also revealed that Nokia believes there is little potential for growth in digital health.
However, there has been a new rumor from French site Les Echos that Google seems to be looking to acquire Nokia's Digital Health division. However, the report says Google is not the only one planning to do so. At least three other companies have expressed interest in Nokia Digital Health.
One of these three companies is not from Europe, while the other two are from France, and we mentioned that because these two companies play a role with the French government. In addition, the Les Echos report revealed that one of those French companies will receive Nokia Digital Health at a much lower price than Nokia initially paid for Withings.
Google's interest in Nokia's health department is not surprising. Withings has many smart appliances in its portfolio, such as a hybrid smart clock, a sleep sensor, a smart weight scale, and other smart health products, which we imagine Google will not mind adding to its lineup. Google has not yet commented on this report, so it is best to deal with it with the least enthusiasm at the moment.
