YouTube confirms the return of hacked videos to work, and continues investigation to determine source of the breach

Some of the most popular music videos on YouTube seem to have been the victims of yesterday's hacking. The Vevo account was probably hacked on YouTube, eroding the most popular music videos such as "Despacito", which happens to be the most watched video on YouTube. The thumbnail of the video was changed to a photograph of a gang of masked men with rifles, a picture of the famous Casa de Papel, which is being shown on Netflix, while the description was changed by pirates who called themselves Kuroi'sh and Prosox.

Despacito was not the only one to be hit. Other famous music videos such as Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Drake, Shakira, and others were also distorted and the thumbnails of those videos and titles were altered.

While Despacito was stopped appearing on YouTube for some time after the hack became apparent, other distorted videos have been on the site for some time. It remains unclear whether the hackers have access to each artist's individual Vevo accounts or whether they have used a vulnerability to access all Vevo accounts.

A spokesman for the company said: "Vevo can confirm that a number of music videos from its catalog had been compromised yesterday, and has now been contained." "We are working on restoring all affected videos and our catalog will return to full functionality. We are continuing to investigate the source of the breach. "
