LumiWatch smartwatch turns your arm into a touch screen

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University unveiled a new smartwatch called LumiWatch, which can turn a part of your arm into a touch screen to allow you to zoom in and out as quickly as you would on your smartphone.
The LumiWatch model drops an interactive space on the user's arm allowing him to click the skin of his arm in this area to use the clock.

The prototype also shows how the device interface works, where you can scroll to the left to unlock the clock, and then the applications are displayed on your arm. The clock can display data in an area of up to 40 centimeters by 1024 x 400 pixels, and the researchers said that this area is about 5 times more than the standard interface in smart clocks.

The LumiWatch Smart Clock consists of a main electronic panel, a projector data projector, a depth sensor, a metal enclosure and a battery. The projector's built-in projector uses three laser colors: red, blue and green, and it works efficiently in the presence of sunlight.

The hourly data projector employs laser scanning technology with a maximum illumination of up to 15 lumen lumens, with support for two-dimensional tracking of the fingers.

LumiWatch Smartwatch Specifications:

The clock comes with a quad-core 1.2GHz processor from Qualcomm, 768 MB random access memory, 4GB internal storage, 740 mAh lithium battery and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support. Android 5.1, the researchers found that the clock is working in the data display mode for more than an hour, and with intermittent use expect the battery to last for a full day.

"Although the obstacles remain for practical application, we believe that our work demonstrates the first intelligent clock system with Functional Projection, which is a major breakthrough," the researchers said in the paper.

Some of these obstacles include the difficulty of displaying Projecting data in a place such as an arm because it is not completely flat - often resulting in a defect in the data display.

The clock detects when the user scrolls to the left to unlock the clock, then tracks the user's finger to calibrate and optimize the projection angle so that the interface is usable.

The researchers estimate that the expected cost of the prototype LumiWatch clock may be up to $ 600, and will come in the size of 50 x 41 x 17 millimeters, which is much larger than Apple's clock that reaches 42.5x 36.4 x 11.4 millimeters.
