How to download and read your Facebook data

You may wonder what exactly do you know about the Facebook platform from my profile? Sure, you can see your profile on the Internet, but that does not tell you the whole story, and one way to know what the platform has is to download your Facebook data.

The ability to download Facebook data is not really new, but many users do not know you can do it, and it will only take a few minutes.


Steps to download your Facebook data

• Go to your Facebook page and click on the arrow pointing down in the upper left corner of the page, which is next to the quick help icon "?", Then press Settings.
• Go to public account settings "You should go there by default after following the first step", under the menu that includes your name, username, etc., find the link that says "Download a copy of your data on Facebook", click it.
• The next page titled "Download your information" will appear, click the Start archive option, then you'll see a notification that it may take a few minutes to create your archive.
• Check your email for a download notification, you'll have a link you need to click on, in order to help ensure that your data request is legit.
• After clicking on the link in your email, your browser will return to the "Download your information" page on Facebook, but there is now the "Archive Download" link, click it to start the download.
• A pop-up window will appear asking for your Facebook password. Enter your password and click Submit to continue.
• The download will now start, and the file size varies depending on how much information you put in Facebook, the more active you are.

How to read your data on Facebook

The Facebook platform provides your data as a local mini-site, all files are in a folder, and if you open the folder, you'll see an index.htm file. Open it.

The first page that opens is your profile page, which gives you a summary of your personal information on the platform, click any of the links below your profile photo to see what's in your Facebook data.

Some points of interest you may want to check sooner rather than later:

Messages: Messages contain a record of all the Messenger messages you've received before, even if you have not answered them.

Security: Displays security on Facebook.

Ads: Ads that have clicked on "Facebook ads" and advertisers with your contact information appear.

Applications: Displays a list of what apps and services use in conjunction with Facebook.

If you see the information you want to change or discard, you can not edit any of this information in the archive, you must do so through your Facebook account.
