Facebook announces two new features within the Messenger app
The new Facebook features target group managers, and enable users to create a "shareable link."
Despite growing controversy over the Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal, Facebook appears to be putting a serious problem ahead of its future to announce the release of two new features for its Messenger Messenger application.
In a blog post, Facebook explained that the first tool targets group managers, allowing them to scrutinize new members in group chats before they can join. If someone decides to invite someone to the group, the group administrator will have the last word.
"This is especially useful in large group chats," the company said. "Supervisors will also have the ability to remove members if necessary, and upgrade or reduce anyone else in group chat as an administrator."
In addition, Facebook said it will now allow anyone in the group to create a "shareable link" that can be shared via any other channel, such as email. When the other person clicks this link, they will be taken directly to the group, assuming Messenger is installed on their device.
Groups through the Messenger application are booming. The company said 2.5 million new collections were created each day last year, and these latest features are likely to increase this figure in 2018.
The launch of the new tools comes a month after Facebook launches a new Messenger feature that allows you to turn your voice and individual video calls into group chats.
The Messenger application now has more than 1.3 billion users per month, surpassed only in the IM market by Whatsapp, which also follows Facebook, with more than 1.5 billion active users per month.
