Applications based on ARKit broke the 13 million downloads process barrier within 6 months

For years, Apple has highlighted the advantages of enhanced reality technology. Just last year, the company finally released the ARKit Enhanced Software Development Kit for developers to begin building applications based on enhanced reality technology. The launch of the ARKit enhanced software development package proved to be very successful for Apple because, according to the market research firm Sensor Tower, more than 13 million ARKit applications have been downloaded since.

According to its distribution of applications, it was surprising that most of the downloads (74%) were for games, followed by general applications, entertainment applications, lifestyle applications such as IKEA Place, photo and video applications, educational applications, and other applications. As we said, the fact that the most important applications based on ARKit was a category of games is not surprising especially when you think of the great success of the game Pokemon Go when it was first launched.

Enhanced reality games are not a new concept. In fact, developers at Niantic tried to launch another game based on enhanced reality technology before Pokemon Go, although that game did not have the same effect as Pokemon Go, thanks in large measure to the popularity Pokemon.

However, we are still somewhat in the early stages of enhanced reality technology, and expect that there will ultimately be more complex applications and future usefulness. In the meantime, we hope that people will encourage more developers to participate in the advancement of this technology, whether using Apple ARKit or Google ARCore.
