An emerging company offering printed houses at a low price to help overcome housing shortages
There are countless people around the world without adequate housing and despite all the efforts of governments and non-profit organizations, there is still a long way to go before housing is secured for those who need it most. As we have said, ICON, based in Austin, USA, has introduced a low cost 3D home that is presented as a possible solution to this global problem.
This emerging company has developed a way to print this one-story 650-square-foot home that uses cement in less than 24 hours. This is far less than it takes to build a house from scratch. This emerging company has collaborated with New Story on this project.
The emerging company ICON presented a prototype of this home printed at the SXSW showroom in the US city of Austin last week. The production version of the printer will be able to print this one-floor house, which we have previously said is 650 square meters in less than 24 hours for less than $ 4,000. The typical home that was exhibited at SXSW Gallery had a living room, bedroom, bathroom, and even a curved balcony. ICON says it has developed "sophisticated materials" for this purpose that have been tested to ensure the highest standards of safety and flexibility recognized.
This will eventually lead to the transfer of the printer to El Salvador, where a residential complex of about 100 houses will be constructed using these materials. ICON also has plans to use this technology to build homes in the United States as well.
