Huawei apply for the brand "Huawei Mate X" trade mark
Huawei announced the Huawei Mate Series 10 series in October last year, helping put an end to rumors that these smartphones will be named Huawei Mate X. However, recent evidence suggests that the company Huawei still wants to use the name Huawei Mate X. In fact, a request from the Huawei branch in the UK to obtain the Huawei Mate X trademark was observed last week at the official website of the European Union's Intellectual Property Office.
The application for Huawei Mate X is a surprise decision if Huawei plans to launch its next flagship phone with this name, since the letter X represents the number 10 in Roman numerals. It can also be the name of some exclusive or additional versions of the Huawei Mate 10 Series phone. However, Huawei may be trying to protect itself and prevent competitors from using the brand in its own products.
Huawei has already used the letter X in the names of some of its products. For example, it was used in the Huawei Matebook X laptop, which was announced in May last year in which the company hopes to compete with Apple's MacBook computers.
