Linux On Galaxy brings the computer system to Samsung smartphones

We have seen many attempts to bring the computer experience to smartphones. In the past, we have seen how Canonical tried to bring Ubuntu's experience to smartphones and tablets through the Ubuntu Touch system, but this project has been stalled for some time. Samsung tried to bring the computer experience to smart phones last year with the Samsung DeX accessory, which allows users to use the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 to access Android applications on a larger screen. Samsung has decided to take another step forward in this endeavor with Linux On Galaxy.

Linux on Galaxy will allow users to run software on Samsung's flagship phones with the Samsung Dex accessory. The company says it will be able to "run multiple operating systems," which means that it will be able to run many Linux distributions such as Arch, Ubuntu, Debian, and so on.

Samsung has posted a video of Linux on Galaxy, which includes core Linux programs such as Terminal, Eclipse, GIMP and Firefox installed on DeX. The company says that this program is currently under development but interested users can subscribe to get notifications about the progress made here.

Linux on Galaxy does not rely on simulations or virtual platform concept so it can only allow running Linux software developed to work with ARM processors. Those interested can now sign up for Linux on Galaxy notifications. It should be noted that the registration page says that Linux on Galaxy uses the same Linux kernel used by the Android system.
