Android P will not run applications developed for Android 4.1 or lower

There may be a lot of apps on the Google Play Store that have not been updated since they were released, possibly for years. This may be due to developers abandoning these applications, or perhaps these applications are simple enough to continue working despite the various updates to the Android system. However, this will change with Android P.

According to a new report released recently from Android Police, it appears that with Android P, Google will block apps created for Android 4.1 or lower. This means that users who are still using these legacy apps will not be able to use them if they decide to upgrade to Android P.

Assume that this is logical because some applications, although functional, may include vulnerabilities that can be exploited to access user data, security vulnerabilities that can be repaired if updated. Or applications that run on Android 4.1 may not be ideal for modern machines because of features and user interface.

Google is not the only one that has decided to do so. Apple has already done the same thing, asking developers to update their applications to support 64bit architecture if they want to keep their applications on the iTunes App Store. As you probably know, Android P is still in beta, but Google is supposed to release the final version of the system in the third or fourth quarter of this year.
